About the Concert:
This is a unique cultural community event to promote the Indian "Bollywood Phenomena" with our kiwi brethren, conceived and put together by NASHA ENTERTAINMENT LTD. Thus far Indian events have been catered and centered on Indian events and special Indian celebrations. Though kiwis attend (in small numbers!) they do enjoy "our larger than life" rambunctious music and dance and certainly our wonderful Indian Cuisine.
Music has no boundaries and is the ideal medium to bring people across the globe, together and this has been done with much success in the last few decades. So this is a small beginning to make this crossover attempt between our two cultures. The only time this actually happens is at the annual Auckland Council Diwali Festivities, other than that...the communities very rarely integrate. The success of this will determine future collaborations be it music, art, fashion; with potential to grow into a regular Festival...something like the Pacifica Festival that is a huge celebration of the various peoples of the Pacific Islands as well as kiwis and the Maori people. NZ has embraced this multicultural extravaganza....it's high time we as Indians who now call this country home also make the effort to extend and share more than just a Diwali celebration and cultivate bonds and relationships with fellow kiwis and share our rich heritage, with informal and more regular events, other than a SOLITARY special celebration every year!
This Concert hopes to do just that!!!
Nasha (The Band) started in May 2012 (Based on the North Shore) decided to go the extra mile incorporating kiwis into the fray, adding the Ritz Event Entertainment Dancers as part of their song and dance routine. In 2013 Nasha embraced kiwi drum students to do percussion in some of their material. This generated interest in a small way when they performed at local Concerts. "Very unusual & wonderful!!" commented a kiwi patron in the audience. Local Media on the North Shore got interested and decided to do a small feature on this collaboration in 2013. This in turn led to a local filmmaker contacting the band to make a private documentary for his Auckland Film makers Club.
Over the past few months, Nasha has joined forces with other Indian performers, to add to this cultural melting pot, with a Concert production to encompass kiwi talent to perform as well. The kiwi Indian Talent is phenomenal and is the cream of what Auckland has on offer. Not to be out done...kiwi performers for this Concert will match their counterparts...note for musical note, also adding heaps of energy, pizazz, Glamour and GLITZ. They are: Garagewalas aka 50/50, Ritz Event Entertainment Dancers, Khottey Sikkey, X Lake Dancers, Ritika Badakere, Leela Patel, Shirley Setia, Vibha Trivedi, Rachit Bhatia, Leon Ruwhiu, RAPPER Anaru Proughton, Megan O'Reilly, Bronte Pierson and the Damsels of Dhoom, with guest musicians, Hemant Thaker, Raoul D'Cunha, Joel Coutts, Shamal Lal and Steven Winn.
