YESSSSS!!! Everyone knows the excitement, the color, the craziness, the exuberance and “over the top” magic that Bollywood inculcates within you…imagine getting to revel even just a little bit, right here, within your own backyard, New Zealand. Over the past few years some of this talent has migrated into NZ and has lived inconspicuously within Auckland and it’s suburbs; now to be unleashed into your midst.
The band was conceptualized in May 2012 and in this short time span, the band has performed with great success at some major events in Auckland - The Auckland Council Diwali Celebrations at Aotea Square, The Humm FM/Manukau Indian Association Diwali celebrations, Auckland Farmer's SANTA PARADE, The OREWA ARTS FESTIVAL and SUMMER FESTIVAL, as well Fundraisers for the Rotary Club of Auckland, Harbourside, Murray's Bay School and the Dyspraxia Trust, the latter two fundraisers, catering to a mainly kiwi audience.. Nasha also believes in giving back to the Community and organised their own Fundraising Galas for KidsCan (2014) and The Himalayan Trust for Nepal Earthquake Relief (2015), raising $20,000 for these 2 Charities.
This group of talented individuals, call themselves “ NASHA”, have worked individually in Bollywood or otherwise on it’s peripherals and have joined forces to provide a feast of Bollywood music and dance to entertain both our desi (Indian) and videshi (Non Indian) brothers and sisters.
Nasha embraces and encompasses a young but professional “videshi” dance troupe, choreographed by Theresa Murphy…bringing Glitz, Glamour and Excitement to enhance & enrich the whole Bollywood experience. Modern day Bollywood is vigorously energetic, incorporating a wide range of Western dance styles from Jazz to Hip Hop plus the more traditional “Bhangra and Garba”. Our dancers are intent to harness, blend and infuse this energy to get you up on your feet. Theresa, a trained dance teacher with her own dance school on the North Shore, brings in a wealth of experience, from both training and choreographing local Musical theatre and dance productions.
The project will reminiscence Bollywood of yesteryear; a trip down memory lane with hits such as Dum Maro Dum, Disco Deewane, Chura Liya to modern day, high energy, pulsating Bollywood dance floor extravaganzas like…..Senorita, Bhaag DK Bose, Chammak Challo, Desi Girl…..lilting love songs like Kal Ho na Ho and Ishq Sufiyana and much more. The repertoire is also constantly expanding to keep it fresh and create a flow of material to entertain all age groups.
The band has an open mind and also plans to reach out to the wider community by infusing and interacting with other forms of expression be it dance, fashion or music from around the world to create a melting pot of entertainment
The band is available to play all kinds of events from Concerts to Corporate events, Fundraisers, Theme parties, wedding receptions or celebrations of any kind. The band members are professional musicians with at least 30 years in the music business and are versatile in most genres of music be it Indian or Western Pop, Rock, Jazz or even Fusion. Due to this versatility the band has performed for Fundraisers above doing quiet Jazz standards over dinner, a blend of light Fusion, uptempo Western Pop & Rock and Roll and their speciality - Bollywood Hits!! This ability to please people of all ethnicities, cultures and age groups has contributed to their continued success.
